Serious issues information-raising and awareness are realized in combatting against statelessness cases

The State Migration Service has held a regional awareness event in Ismayilli on “Elimination of statelessness cases”. The aim of the event is to organize the documentation of persons without documents and with unidentified citizenship living in the official territory of Aghsu Regional Migration Department.

Employees of the local executive power bodies of Goychay, Ismayilli, Kurdamir, Aghsu, Shamakhi and Gobustan districts, authorized representatives of the judicial authorities, chiefs of registration and identity cards groups of these districts’ police departments, public members, as well as foreigners and stateless persons attended in the meeting, held in the administrative building of the executive power.  

Mirdamad Sadigov, head of the executive power of the district noting the relevance of the topic, stressed the sustainability of the awareness activities realized by the State Migration Service.

Speaking at the event, Faig Mustafayev, deputy head of Aghsu city Regional Migration Department gave detailed information about the activity directions of the Service.

Elchin Mammadov, temporary executing the deputy chief of the Citizenship Issues Solution Department of the Citizenship Issues General Department of SMS, spoke about realization of significant issues in the direction of awareness-raising in the fight against statelessness, as well as in the direction of the requirements of international conventions, supported by our country. He noted that Azerbaijan has joined "End to statelessness within 10 years" of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and systematic work is implemented in this direction. The important measures are just realized by the Service in the field of fight against statelessness in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The participants were submitted booklets prepared by the Service on the topic of the event, the questions were replied.

During the event, the appeal of 22 people living in the official territory of the Aghsu city Regional Migration Department was listened. 15 of them were given instructions in submission of documents for adoption to citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 2 were explained current document list on determination of citizenship belonging. 5 persons were recommended the confirmation of facts of living in the Republic of Azerbaijan and not being the citizenship of any country in judicial form and subsequent application for admission to citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan and submitted named lists of appropriate documents.
