An awareness raising event was held on “eradication of statelessness”
An awareness raising event on “eradication of statelessness" was held by the Aghsu regional migration department in the administrative building of Goychay District branch of the New Azerbaijan Party. Representatives of administrative-territorial structures and members of the district municipality, faculty and community representatives, foreigners and stateless persons participated in the event.
At the meeting it was noted that as a reflection of achievements in domestic and foreign policy executed by the President Ilham Aliyev, all rights and liberties- freedom of movement, freedom to choose a residential locations, access to education, engagement in labor activity, act as a shareholder and entrepreneur, personal immunity, property immunity, leisure, protection of health, freedom of conscience of foreigners have been utterly provided in Azerbaijan.
At the event, which encompassed topics on 10-years activity of the State Migration Service, its duties and eradication of statelessness, it was noted that the State Migration Service has been involved in the citizenship issues by the Decree of the President of Azerbaijan dated on March 6, 2008 and since that period, the Service has started to examine requests received from individuals and various institutions regarding adoption, restoration and revocation of citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as determination of affiliation to the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan
It was reported that, in order to strengthen cooperation in combating cases of statelessness, as well as effective protection of the rights of these individuals, the Republic of Azerbaijan has joined the campaign of “ending statelessness within 10 years" initiated by UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The relevant works have been carried out by the Service in all regions of the country to raise awareness in combating cases of statelessness and in determining the legal status of these persons.
At the event, an explanatory talk was conducted on the requirements of the Law "On Citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan", cases of loss of citizenship, as well as procedures related to the affiliation of citizenship.
At the end, questions of interest to the participants’ on citizenship and registration upon place of residence were answered in compliance with the law.
In addition, on the same day, a mobile service was rendered by SMS in Goychay. The applicants were given a list of required documents on the determination of the citizenship, the issuance of permit for temporary residence, and also foreigners were provided with cards on permits for temporary and permanent residence.
Goychay district administrations and the participants of the event appreciated and expressed their gratitude for the organization of this kind of enlightening event by the State Migration Service.
